“Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me?” False!
Words have the ability to empower or damage us when we believe the message. You know that voice in your head that keeps you from taking risks or makes you question your words or choices? Imagine if that voice instead reminded you of all the reasons you are brilliant! "I AM LOVABLE like the ALPACA!"
Affirmations are positive phrases that are repeated frequently to change the neural pathways of the brain and reframe our thinking.
Think affirmations are a little hippy dippy? Think again. MRI evidence shows that the brain is actually restructured when affirmations are used, helping practitioners build confidence, resiliency and a flexible mind.
Dr. Masaru Emoto’s famous study demonstrated how water molecules change based on the intention of words. When frozen, beautiful ice crystals formed in the water that was told “I love you,” while water that was told “you disgust me” formed ugly blobs. As 60% of the human body is composed of water, this study suggests that our structure actually changes when we hear loving, positive messages!
Children who hear and use positive affirmations develop a growth mindset that supports them in challenging situations. We all know that kids repeat the things they hear- what message do you want your child mentally playing on repeat?
